A Place for Memory: Inaugurating Dr. Alfred Wiener Platz in Stuttgart

As part of a new project to commemorate and honour those who opposed Nazism in Germany, Alfred Wiener is now included in a raft of new street names in Stuttgart. They replace street and square names which previously celebrated the Anschluss, the annexation of Austria by Germany in 1938. Our Director, Dr Toby Simpson, reflects on the commemorations and the legacy of our founder.

Older People and the Holocaust Workshop Report

On 5 and 6 December 2024, The Wiener Holocaust Library hosted a workshop aimed at doctoral and early-career scholars to explore older people’s daily lives, deaths, and movements during the Holocaust. This workshop built upon the work that has been done by Christine Schmidt, Elizabeth Anthony, and Joanna Sliwa for their upcoming edited volume, Older Jews and the Holocaust (Wayne State University Press, 2026).

European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) Becomes an ERIC to Secure the Future of Holocaust Research

On the eve of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI), of which the Wiener Holocaust Library is a proud founding member, will be inaugurated as a permanent European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) during a ceremony at the Polin Museum in Warsaw.
