Their Solemn Resolution: United Nations and the Holocaust

3 December 2012 - 30 January 2013

On Monday 17th December 1942, Sir Anthony Eden stood in Parliament and read out a Declaration in the name of the United Nations against the Persecution of the Jews. The statement was the first multinational recognition and public condemnation of the Nazis actions in Europe and was broadcast from London over a worldwide radio network in 23 different languages.

To mark the 70th Anniversary of the Declaration, the Library joined up with The Guardian and The Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy, SOAS, to put on a special exhibition at The Guardian News & Media, King's Place. The exhibition, 'Their Solemn Resolution: The United Nations and the Holocaust', examined the events of 1942 leading up to the Declaration - both the developments in Europe and the responses in the UK.
